New Frontiers in Pain Medicine

The 33rd National Congress of the Italian Association for the Study of Pain will take place in Florence, a city of crucial importance for the history of Pain Medicine and AISD. Florence has a longstanding and prestigious tradition in the pain field thanks to the studies of outstanding scientific personalities, from Antonio Lunedei and Renato Galletti to Paolo Procacci, Leonardo Vecchiet and Federigo Sicuteri. In 1975 the city hosted the 1st Congress of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), coordinated by John J. Bonica and Denise Albe-Fessard, and the following year the Italian Members of IASP met there to formally constitute AISD, which
officially became the Italian chapter of the International Association. Such a prestigious city is the ideal site for the next AISD Congress and I warmly invite you to take part in this event. The scientific programme will be, as always, wide and multidisciplinary, aimed at updating both clinicians and researchers on the most recent advances in the pain field. The Congress will also be an opportunity to pay hommage to Paolo Procacci, master and pioneer in Pain Medicine.
