On July 25th, 2007 the EFIC Research Committee selected the winners of the EFIC Grünenthal Grant from a total of 29 applications.

Most of the applications were of very high standard and the Research Committee decided to support 5 research projects.

On 6 July 2007, EFIC had the pleasure to host the following meetings in the new office of the federation relocated recently to Belgium :

Members of the Executive Board of EFIC have attended a Meeting in Rome and have been received by Pope Benedictus XVI.


A Symposium has been held by the Tor Vergata University of Rome, on June 22nd 2007, under the leadership of Prof. Allessandro Fabrizio Sabato. Three members of the Executive Board of EFIC: Prof. Serdar Erdine, President; Prof. Giustino Varrassi, President Elect; Prof Hans Kress, Treasurer; Prof. Michael Zenz, Chair of the Scientific Committee for Pain in Europe VI in Lisbon and Ricardo Ruiz Lopez, organizer of the Pain in Europe II have attended this meeting celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Rome Treaty for the establishment of the European Union. On the 23rd of June 2007, a few members of the whole meeting including our members have been received by Pope Benedictus XVI in the Vatican.

New IASP Chapter within EFIC – Serbian Chapter

The Serbian Pain Society has now been accepted by IASP as chapter in Formation. Prof. Miroslava Pjevic is the President of SAPRT, Serbian Association of Pain Research and Treatment. The Serbian Chapter has 15 active members and they are organizing a Seminar on “Pain in Older Persons", in Novi Sad on the 20 th of April 2007. EFIC welcomes the new chapter, and their President, Prof. Pjevic.

European Week Against Pain / Global Day Against Pain

EFIC would like to announce its launch of a year long campaign on “Pain in the Older Persons”

The press conference will take place between 11:00 and 12:00 on the 12th September 2006 at the Hilton Istanbul Hotel, Mercury room, in Istanbul Turkey.
